Best Episodes of The Adam Friedland Show

The “Adam Friedland Show” has carved out a strange and singular corner of the podcast world, part talk show parody, part genuine conversation, part exercise in seeing how far Adam can push an interview before it falls apart (or becomes something better than it had any right to be). What started in the wake of Cum Town has grown into a show with its own rhythm: the deadpan host persona, the absurd musical interludes, the guests who range from comedians to rappers to people who clearly don’t know what they’ve walked into. The best episodes are the ones where that chemistry clicks and the bit becomes the conversation. Here are the standouts worth starting with.

Ep. 151 – Pussy for lobster

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

The episode opens with a recurring routine where the hosts pretend to be people in blackface asking provocative questions at a Bernie Sanders town hall, then drifts through riffs on John McCain and Vietnam, the Notre Dame fire and French/Catholic jokes, a long recurring bit voicing Sebastian the lobster from The Little Mermaid obsessing over Ariel, and an extended factual tangent about how lobsters actually mate.

RAINN WILSON talks Dwight, Clowning, Baha’i

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring actor Rainn Wilson, ostensibly to promote his new film Code 3(a comedy about EMS frontline workers, releasing the 12th). Friedland opens with a sarcastic scripted monologue claiming Wilson “cyberbullied” him on Instagram after a contentious interview, complete with a mock call to a “sexual misbehavior expert” theorizing that years of playing Dwight Schrute drove Wilson insane. The actual interview is loose, comedic, and frequently derailed: they riff on Jay Leno, Weird Al Yankovic, and parody songs; Wilson’s theater and clowning training at NYU (including a Star Trek’s Gates McFadden as his clown teacher) and how those roots, plus an improvised Amish backstory, shaped the Dwight Schrute character.

Ep. 217 – Heavy Brain

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

It opens with the hosts riffing on a recurring previous bit (playing classical music to attract an “intellectual” partner), then spins into absurdist runs about FDR secretly having huge breasts, an extended fake pitch for an 1890s cosmetic-surgery period drama modeled on the TV show The Knick, Afrika Bambaataa and a joke “sixth pillar” of hip-hop, the Dalai Lama, Kanye, and a “Trolley Lama” Zen-for-autistic-people bit.

MIA KHALIFA Talks Viral Fame, Fatwa, Being the Goat

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring media personality and former adult performer Mia Khalifa (who goes by Sarah). Friedland opens with a mock-earnest monologue claiming he’s “matured” and won’t make crude jokes this week because Piers Morgan and his own family are surveilling him. The interview that follows is a mix of comedic riffing and genuinely substantive conversation: they bond over country music, share stories about cosmetic procedures and childhood weight struggles, and run an extended bit about her Letterboxd film ratings (especially her dislike of When Harry Met Sally).

The Adam Friedland Show Podcast – Dan Soder – Episode 52

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show (with Friedland and Nick Mullen) featuring comedian Dan Soder as guest. There’s no real topic—it’s a loose, deliberately offensive improvised riff session. They open on Soder having gotten sucked into the Jason Statham Transporter movies on cable, riffing on the franchise’s absurd plot logic.

JOHN C. REILLY Talks Step Brothers, Empathy, New Album

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring legendary actor John C. Reilly, who’s promoting his touring live music/performance act “Mr. Romantic.” Unlike the show’s usual shock-comedy guests, this is a largely sincere, substantive conversation, with Friedland mostly playing the earnest fan and occasionally undercutting himself with self-deprecating sarcasm. Reilly opens with stories about his Chicago wrestling background and the humiliation of losing, then discusses Boogie Nights (which Friedland names a lifelong favorite), seeing a new 70mm print of it, working with Jodie Foster, and the surreal experience of child stardom. They dig into Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia and the “rain of frogs” as a metaphor for life’s senseless chaos (tied to losing a parent), Reilly’s philosophy that he’s an actor rather than a comedian who simply commits fully to absurd premises, and how Step Brothers drew on real stories from his childhood.

MARK CUBAN Talks Luka Trade, Epstein, Steve Ballmer

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

Featuring billionaire entrepreneur and former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and unusually for the show it’s a fairly substantive, good-natured interview wrapped in Friedland’s signature absurdist comedy. Friedland opens with an elaborate scripted bit recounting Cuban’s “biography” that’s actually just the entire plot of Scarface with Cuban’s name swapped in. The conversation that follows covers Cuban’s Jewish family history and how the surname “Cuban” came from anglicizing a Russian-Jewish town name; his college years at Indiana University (chosen as the cheapest top-ten business school), the rugby photos that leaked via Deadspin, and the chain-letter scheme he used to pay tuition; and how he became a billionaire overnight when Broadcast.com sold to Yahoo for $5.7 billion, including the famous “collar” hedge that protected him before the dot-com crash.

WILLIAM H. MACY Talks Fargo, Auditions, PTA

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring Emmy-winning actor William H. Macy, and like the other “real” guest interviews it’s largely sincere and substantive, with Friedland playing the deferential fan who occasionally undercuts things with absurdist jokes (and a running bit about Macy’s talking-animal movies like Marmaduke and The Tale of Despereaux). Macy opens with stories about his father, a B-17 bomber pilot in WWII, and a memorable two-day drive to Chicago during which his dad recounted every woman he’d slept with during the war. The heart of the conversation is a master class on acting and his decades-long mentorship under playwright David Mamet at Goddard College: Macy explains Mamet’s refined Meisner technique—that acting is about what you do, not how you feel, that the writer is the “founder of the feast,” that the audience only wants to know “what happens next,” and that there is no “character,” just really looking and really listening as yourself.

HASAN PIKER | Politics Online, Fashion, Sex, Mr. Beast?

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring Twitch streamer and leftist political commentator Hasan Piker, framed as the final installment of Friedland’s “last episode” series. Friedland opens with an absurd scripted bit announcing fake life changes (getting engaged, reading the Quran, rewatching Donnie Darko) and declaring he’s relaunching the show as a Trump-fighting political project, complete with a call to a “John” character and Piker offering to hide him. The interview itself is loose and comedic but covers real ground: Piker’s Turkish background and how Turks bristle at being called Arab; his physique and how being conventionally attractive aids his success against the “European-dressing, secretly gay” Andrew Tate–type right-wing influencers; and an explanation of what he actually does—streaming roughly 8 hours a day reacting to news in real time, which he likens to “a reverse Rush Limbaugh without the opiate addiction.”

LINA KHAN Talks FTC, Monopolies, Biden

Listen on: Pod.link | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Overcast | Pocket Casts

This is an episode of The Adam Friedland Show featuring former FTC Chair Lina Khan, and like the show’s other “real” guest interviews it’s largely substantive and respectful, with Friedland playing the awed, self-deprecating fan while needling her with absurdist jokes. He opens with a scripted Batman-themed intro casting Khan as the hero fighting corporate villains (Amazon as the Penguin, Meta as Bane), and runs a recurring bit throughout accusing the scrupulously honest Khan of being constitutionally unable to lie or “talk shit” because she’s testified before Congress, plus a long-running gag trying to get her to admit she scored a perfect 180 on the LSAT. The conversation covers genuine ground on antitrust and anti-monopoly policy: her Hannah Arendt college thesis and the historical link between economic consolidation and the rise of Nazism.
