Find That Pod # 103

Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 103rd edition of Find That Pod.

I drove across my country this week. By the end of the trip, four days and 4500+ km later, I really just wanted to be out of my car. But the pain of that drive was definitely eased somewhat by a bevvy of fantastic podcasts to listen to that have been piling up in my queue.

So this week, I was particularly grateful to have some of my favourite voices in my ears as I completed the longest road trip of my life.

A quick PATREON update.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far, much appreciated!

The Apology Line

Imagine one day, in 1981, posters start to appear all over New York City encouraging people to call a hotline where they can leave an anonymous apology. About anything. And to anyone. But soon, the apologies that are left on the line become darker and more sinister. And soon the apology makers begin to leave messages for each other, and more importantly for the man that started the line. An incredibly fascinating true crime series from Wondery that will enthrall you from the start.

CULTS

Cults. They’re a part of the human condition. There’s a pretty big and active one going on in America right now, but I digress. This podcast is a deep and running exploration of the phenomenon of cults. It also delves into specific groups, some of which you may know, and some of which you’ve never heard of.

Deeply Human

This layman’s exploration of what it means to be human sounds somewhat shallow at first, but all you have to do is listen to one episode of this show and you’ll be hooked. Be warned, however, this is a brand new show so you’ll only be able to binge three episodes at the time of this writing. Habits, hopes, love lives, what is it that makes us human? A terrific start for this show.

Evil by Design

From my home country’s CBC, this is a podcast about more than 80 women from around the world who have accused fashion mogul Peter Nygard of rape, sexual assault and human trafficking across many decades. Yup, this is the story of “Canada’s Jeffrey Epstein”.

The Experiment

So how is the experiment that is America and American Democracy going? How has the experiment evolved over time? This incredible podcast from The Atlantic takes a look at modern and not-so-modern quirks of the American system of governance and society and puts them both in a historical and sociological context. Without a doubt, one of the better shows I’ve heard this year thus far.
