Find That Pod # 109

Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 109th edition of Find That Pod.

As always, greetings to all of our new subscribers! Hope everyone had a good week. As we move through this pandemic, I’m finally feeling a bigger sense of hope and optimism. So if you’re eligible, I’m going to do my part here to encourage you to go get vaccinated.

Also, you guys did a good job describing your podcasts with GIFs in this week’s twitter thread.

Trail Weight

The fine line between good story-telling and bad story-telling can be somewhat mysterious. But this incredible podcast doesn’t have to worry about straddling that line at all. You see, this is a show for those of us who have always wanted to accomplish something. Perhaps it’s something that seems insurmountable. It’s a podcast that masterfully tells the story of Andrew Steven, who one day, decided that he was stuck in life. Not only was he significantly overweight, he felt like he had been metaphorically treading in quick sand for the majority of his life.

It’s also the story of a wilderness adventure. A superbly told tale of what happens when you decide to hike over 200 miles through the Sierra Nevada Mountains as a way to jumpstart your health and make a durable change in your life. We’re only four episodes in, but this show is almost guaranteed to get you hooked by the first episode. I won’t spoil anything else, but I highly recommend that you give this show a try.

I Hate It, But I Love It

Movies, TV shows, music, nothing is off limits from two hateful optimists that skewer and praise all the things in pop-culture that there’s an internet forum about. Sure, some items are a bit dated, but there’s still plenty of passion, jokes, and hilarity to go around when talking about some of the most iconic works of pop-culture. A pretty enjoyable, and easy-to-listen to podcast that is sure to tickle one of your funny bones.

In Plain Sight: Lady Bird Johnson

Perhaps unsurprisingly to students of American history, Lady Bird Johnson was one of the most influential first ladies in history. This amazing podcast delves into over 123 hours of previously unheard audio to detail some of how she navigated the politics and issues of her era while playing a massive role in the Johnson administration.

High Brow Drivel

Just because science and other big topics are often serious, that doesn’t mean they need to be taken too seriously at all times. That’s the niche this podcast snuggly occupies. It’s hosted by Anthony Jeannot who not only brings on experts to discuss various topics like climate change, dinosaurs, billionaires, technology, the human mind and more, but he also happens to be a fantastic interviewer. If you’ve got a curious mind and want some light entertainment on the side, this is the podcast for you.

How Neal Feel

If you’re looking to add to your comedy podcast listening routine, you should put this show on your radar. Comedian Neal Brennan (from The Daily Show fame) is joined by co-host Bianca Sia to cover practically anything happening in the news. It’s a comedy / current events show with two very funny people that also happen to hold some strong opinions. Race, gender, sex, technology, they talk about it all.
