Find That Pod # 117

Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 117th edition of Find That Pod.

Hard to believe it’s already July. How about that heatwave in the American and Canadian West huh? If you want a glimpse into what’s ahead for the planet in the coming years, I’d encourage you to read this book.

I read this book a little while back, and I had to literally read it again right after. It shook me in a way that no book had in a long time. So far the future it paints may actually be a little bit too optimistic based on what we’re seeing, which is frankly, terrifying. I’m thinking of doing a climate change special edition of the newsletter to highlight some of the best podcasts covering that topic soon. In the meantime… enjoy this latest round of recommendations, and hope you have a great Fourth of July weekend, you know, for those of you who celebrate that holiday.

It’s Always the Husband

Chemistry. Between podcast hosts is the one thing that is so often underrated. It can make or break a show. Thankfully this wonderful podcast from two Minnesota ladies named Sarah and Megan has it in spades. Together, they tackle the true-crime genre with a bit of a twist. That is, they look at the, apparently plentiful myriad of buffoonery that is husbands committing crimes of all stripes.

But it’s more than that, and if you bother to binge this podcast, which I highly recommend you do, you’ll quickly be ensnared in the hilarious and hijinks filled lives of these two friends. Sure, they’re both married to husbands for now, but with all the marital true-crime they cover, who knows for how much longer! After all, it’s always the husband!

The Two Princes

The powerhouse that is Gimlet, despite being bought out by Spotify, continues to push further afield into all kinds of different genres. The Two Princes is a scripted show set in a fantasy world where two princes from warring kingdoms become allies and soon fall in love with each other while trying to figure out how to save their kingdoms. As with most scripted shows of this caliber, the production quality here is off-the-charts, and the story happens to be quite good!

Badlands

True-crime, meet Hollywood. Season one of this show takes a deep focus on the most infamous Hollywood stars and the crimes and mysterious deaths the occurred amidst their kind. Their kind being the rich and famous. Explore what happened to Bruce Lee, John Holmes, River Phoenix, and yes, Marilyn Monroe.

Voyage to the Stars

Travel to the year 2263 and join a group of bumbling misfits that mistakenly board an alien spacecraft only to find themselves transported through a wormhole  to the far side of the universe. That’s the simple premise of this awesome sci-fi / comedy show featuring some top-tier voice talent. I’m unwilling to say more as not to spoil anything, but go ahead and give it a whirl.

Secret Sauce

I’ve come to the realization that I don’t really feature enough podcasts related to the world of business and finance. Well, let’s start to remedy that by recommending this awesome podcast from Wondery. Secret Sauce is an awesome exploration of what makes companies and individuals succeed or fail. What is their “secret sauce” and how the hell do you get your hands on that sweet, juicy recipe of secret success? Insightful, well-produced, and just plain old informative. Give this podcast a listen if you’re into you know… money.
