Weird Darkness

Don’t come to this podcast looking for anything other than some of the best stories of the paranormal, supernatural (what’s the difference between those two?), legends, lore, crime, conspiracy, macabre, and the unsolved and unexplained. Sometimes all it takes is a talented voice artist to bring a good story to life, and that’s very much the case of Darren Marlar who hosts this prolific podcast. Publishing seven days a week, you’ll never be short on fantastic content around this genre. With over 12.5 million downloads, you know there’s something spookily good here.

Standup Comedy: “Your Host and MC”

Hosted by Scott Edwards, who has opened and run numerous comedy clubs in America for decades, this show has a heavy focus on the stand-up comedy genre. Filled with stories, interviews, and comedy sets from standup comics… famous, and not so famous, this podcast is well-suited for anyone wanting to get a better idea of stand-up comedy history and what it takes to build a career as a comic.

Secret Life

Some people have a gift. That gift can be dangerous. It’s the gift of getting other people to trust them in order to tell them their secrets. Such is the life of HOST Brianne Davis whose disarming approach with her guests allows them to tell her their deepest secrets. Pretty great show for those of us who like to play voyeur in the lives of others.

Rotten Mango

Sick of the true crime genre? Good, neither am I. But as we’ve discussed before, the field is rife with sub-par podcasts that simply don’t do the storytelling potential any justice. So when I come across a show that’s the polar opposite of that, I’m compelled to share it with you. If you want deep dives in the psychology of killers, no holding back storytelling of crimes, and stories of lesser known criminals from around the world this is the place for you.

American History Tellers

Whoever is in charge of the team at Wondery, the premium podcast studio, needs a raise. These people just continue to put out one great podcast after another. It’s frankly kind of a shame they were acquired by Amazon. But hopefully they won’t stop putting out great shows like this one. What’s it about? Pretty self-explanatory:

The Cold War, Prohibition, the Gold Rush, the Space Race. Every part of your life -the words you speak, the ideas you share- can be traced to our history, but how well do you really know the stories that made America?

Give it a listen, you might discover something you didn’t learn in history class about the empire in decline, known as the US of A.
