Find That Pod # 50

Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 50th edition of Find That Pod.

There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen. That’s the kind of week we’ve all just gone through. The speed and ferocity of the news accompanying this global pandemic have been utterly breathtaking.

With that in mind, I decided that instead of trying to distract you this week, I’d try to keep you somewhat informed about what’s unfolding. Without further blabbing, here are some COVID-19 related podcasts you can rely on to bring you the facts and what to expect.

Additionally, I’d like to thank everyone that entered this week’s Twitter contest, here are the winners:

  • One Last Thought podcast – Bite-sized wisdom and leadership lessons from some of the best leaders.
  • Binge Society – Rant and banter over your favourite binge-worthy movies, series, books and more.
  • Collateral Cinema – A movie podcast focusing on good movies, bad movies and everything in between.

Coronavirus 411

I’m not entirely sure what the source of this podcast is but it seems like a well-intentioned “just the facts” type podcast where you’ll get a daily update on the major news developments surrounding the pandemic every morning. It gathers information from the CDC, the WHO and other news sources and collates it into a nice compact piece of reporting.

Coronavirus Daily Briefing

Written and read by a man named Brian McCullough, this podcast is a nice 15-minute daily update on what’s happening with the pandemic. It’s focused, non-hysterical and includes tips on what to do during this unprecedented time and what you can do to help mitigate the spread of this virus. Warning… there are also definitely some harrowing accounts of what’s happening in other countries like Italy.

Making Sense with Sam Harris

I know that Sam Harris is a controversial figure for some people, but oftentimes he is a sober voice of reason and science and so I include his podcast on this list because he dedicated the last two episodes of his podcast to Coronavirus. He interviews two incredible experts about the virus, discussing things like what level of concern we should all have, the contagiousness of this virus, mortality rates, the imperative of social distancing, Trump’s political messaging, the importance of “flattening the curve” as well as possible anti-viral treatments and the world’s response to this crisis.
