Find That Pod # 65

Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 65th edition of Find That Pod.

I hope everyone is doing well on this fine Friday. As always, welcome new subscribers! If this is your first newsletter, you probably won’t see anything different. If however, you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll notice that we have a sponsor for this issue. Make sure to check them out!

This week I had a chance to speak with Kinsey Grant of the Business Casual podcast. Business Casual is an off-shoot of the incredibly popular Morning Brew email newsletter. Kinsey is a smart and talented journalist, writer and podcaster who has taken the helm of Business Casual. Make sure to check out my interview with her here.

Here are this week’s podcasts:

Gastropod

Food, farming, aquaculture, cutlery, ancient recipes, wine, beer, microbes, this amazing podcast is all about food. It’s a much larger topic than you think and with awesome interviews with experts and historians, this show examines how food has and continues to shape human society. Don’t miss this one.

History Defeats Itself

I’ve been recently reading about the 1918 Flu Pandemic. You know, just trying to see how all that turned out given our current circumstances. But more than that, I was curious about what measures were advocated by medical professionals over a hundred years ago as compared to today. And the truly depressing part is… they literally advocated the same thing. Masks, social distancing, washing hands. Crazy right?

Seems like humans are kind of bad at learning from history. That’s what this awesomely funny and poignant podcast is all about. Do we, as people learn from history or are we doomed forever to repeat it? You’ll have to listen to find out how humanity tends to engage in the same foibles time and time again. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it is sad and tragic.

The Bellingcat Podcast

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. No, not the one that probably went down somewhere in the Indian Ocean. This is the one that got shot down over Eastern Ukraine five years ago. The Bellingcat podcast is about trying to uncover the truth of what happened to that plane. Who were the killers and why have they gone unpunished?

Adult Conversation Parenting Podcast

Amidst the endless parenting podcasts that provide annoying and often times incorrect or simply inapplicable parenting advice, this show is a breath of fresh air. Its first assumption is that there is no such thing as perfect parenting. Host Brandy Ferner and her guests partake in real talk about everything relating to motherhood – marriage post-kids, birth, the never-ending micromanagement of screen time, sex, chronic-illness, homeschooling, meditation, the revolt of the ageing uterus, postpartum depletion and more.

The Dalrymple Report

This one is definitely for the Apple nerds in the crowd. Journalist Jim Dalrymple has been following Apple and its products for over seventeen years and was one of the original MacCentral and MacWorld members. Jim and his co-host Dave Mark shoot the breeze about all topics related to Apple. A true standout in the world of tech podcasts.
