Five Great New Podcasts

Welcome to the 77th edition of Find That Pod.

Welcome as always to all new subscribers.

Continuing my series of podcaster interviews, this week I had a chance to speak with Jacob Mchangama of The Clear and Present Danger podcast. A show all about the history and ongoing issue of free speech. Check it out here.

Also, if you haven’t used the REFERRAL program where you can tell your friends about the newsletter and earn some sweet rewards, make it so commander.

Here are this week’s podcast recommendations:

The Bomb

This incredibly compelling podcast from the BBC is told by someone whose grandfather worked directly on the atomic bomb that dropped on Hiroshima. The story tells of the development of the bomb and the hosts personal struggle with knowing that part of her family was involved in creating the most terrifying weapon ever made.

The Daily Zeitgeist

Trying to stay on top of the news? Good luck with that. It’s nearly impossible. Into that fray, a variety of daily news summary podcasts have stepped into the fray. One of the best and more entertaining ones is The Daily Zeitgeist. This is not your typical news roundup. Prepare to laugh and be informed all at the same time. Oh, and there’s plenty of F-bombs, if that’s your sort of thing.

Sup Doc: A Documentary Podcast

Funny, thoughtful and a great way to discover new documentaries. The Sup Doc podcast is a film review show that focuses squarely on documentaries of all stripes. With a back-catalogue of over 155 episodes, there’s plenty of high-quality analysis and discovery to be had with this great podcast.

American Hysteria

Moral panics. They’re a scourage upon the American landscape. And while they’re not uniquely American, they do tend to pop up a lot in that country. This podcast is an exploration of irrational fears, urban legends, conspiracy theories, and of-course moral panics. Pretty great show for anyone that values rationality above, well, irrationality.

Inward Empire

Gather round, American History nerds. This show was designed for you. Exploring the ideas and depths of idealogy against the background of American historical events is what this podcast is all about. But don’t think you have to be an American history scholar to enjoy this show. It’s actually quite accessible for anyone.  Hosted by a high-school history teacher no less!
