My First Million Podcast Review

My First Million

OUR RATING:

The Podcast That Makes Business Success Feel Within Reach

Listen, we’ve all been there. Scrolling through our bank accounts, wondering if ramen noodles count as a sustainable long-term business strategy, when suddenly you discover “My First Million” and realize you’ve been approaching wealth accumulation all wrong. Apparently, the secret isn’t winning the lottery or inheriting a trust fund; it’s listening to Sam Parr and Shaan Puri discuss business ideas worth more than most people’s mortgages while you’re trying to figure out if you can afford name-brand cereal this week.

And while we all know that starting a business can be hard as hell, My First Million is a terrific view into how other businesses succeed, sprinkled with nearly limitless ideas and marketing strategies you can apply.

Both the genius and stickiness of “My First Million” comes from its ability to make you believe that anyone can stumble into extraordinary wealth, provided they have the right combination of audacity, timing, and the supernatural ability to spot opportunities that the rest of us mistake for regular Tuesday afternoon observations. Sam and Shaan don’t just share business ideas; they perform financial alchemy, turning everyday annoyances into potential gold mines with the confidence of people who’ve done pretty well for themselves.

Perhaps the most beautifully torturous aspect of this podcast is how it transforms your daily life into a constant stream of missed opportunities. That app you thought of three years ago? Yeah, someone just sold it for eight figures. That “dumb” business idea you dismissed? It’s now disrupting an entire industry. Suddenly, every conversation becomes a potential billion-dollar brainstorming session, and every mundane problem looks like a venture capital presentation waiting to happen.

Sam Parr (of The Hustle, and now Hampton fame) brings the energy of someone who’s seen behind the curtain of business success and found it surprisingly accessible, while maintaining just enough self-awareness to acknowledge that his journey involved equal parts strategy and spectacular luck. He’s a keen observer of today’s business landscape and couples that with the ability to break down complex concepts into digestible insights. It’s probably only matched by his talent for making listeners simultaneously inspired and mildly depressed about their own entrepreneurial inaction.

Shaan Puri, meanwhile, operates as the perfect foil…a master of spotting patterns and opportunities. His contributions feel less like business advice and more like glimpses into a parallel universe where good ideas automatically translate into good outcomes, and timing is just another skill you can develop with practice.

What I most enjoy about “My First Million” is how it manages to be genuinely educational and inspiring. And in some ways, it’s a type of entrepreneurial self-help disguised as entertainment, and wrapped in the kind of conversational chemistry that makes you feel like you’re eavesdropping on the world’s most expensive brainstorming session.

The show succeeds because it doesn’t pretend that building wealth is easy. Instead, it argues that it’s simple, i.e. If you take the right steps. Sam and Shaan present entrepreneurship not as a mystical art form reserved for the chosen few, but as a learnable skill set that most of us have simply never bothered to develop.

“My First Million” is essential listening for anyone who enjoys the unique masochism of discovering exactly how many opportunities they’ve missed while simultaneously getting genuinely excited about the possibilities that still exist.

It’s the rare podcast that makes you feel both incredibly motivated and deeply inadequate, often within the same episode. And honestly, isn’t that exactly the kind of emotional complexity we need from our financial education? By the time you finish binge-listening, you’ll either be ready to quit your job and launch the next unicorn, or you’ll have a much clearer understanding of why some people drive Lamborghinis while the rest of us are still figuring out optimal grocery budgeting strategies.

This show has found a permanent place in my podcast queue. And if you know anything about the size of my queue (as a professional podcast curator – I just made that fancy title up), that’s a big goddamn deal.
